EU supported conference “Fisheries for the Economic Development of the Country” and Fish Festival were held in Batumi
A series of EU-supported events concerning aquaculture were held in Adjara over the past weekend. An international conference, a festival of fish and sea products and field visits took place in Batumi and Keda during 5-7 April.
The International Scientific Conference “Fisheries for the Economic Development of the Country”, held on 6th of April in Batumi, aimed at connecting organizations and people from different countries who are employed in the fishery industry.
The conference was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara A/R, Tite Aroshidze and Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili.
“Aquaculture is essential for our region. The Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara A/R has developed strategy for the development of the field. Therefore, we express our readiness to support initiatives related to the development of aquaculture in the region” - stated Tite Aroshidze, Minister of Agriculture of Adjara A/R.
The Conference participants included representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations from Georgia, Ukraine, Turkey, Norway, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Prior to the conference, participants visited fish farms in Keda municipality to share and exchange knowledge and experience, as well as plan future activities in order to more efficiently utilize hydro potential through mutual cooperation.
The Fish Festival also took place in Batumi Boulevard on 7th of April. The participating countries presented various fish and sea products. In addition, different local fish restaurants, public colleges, and wine and beer companies participated in the festival.
The event was organized by the organic aquaculture development association “Phoreji” with the support of the EU ENPARD funded project “Keda LEADER” implemented by CENN, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara and the Alliance Group. Partners of the event included N(N)LE “Agro Service Centre,” the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Adjara, the City Hall of Batumi, Batumi Boulevard, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia.
